The utilization of crystals in magic formulas can be traced back to the Ancient Sumerians during the 4th millennium BC. And even in traditional Chinese Medicine, which has been around for at least 5000 years, they’ve been using crystals for healing.
In the book “The Demon-Haunted World,” scientist Carl Sagan points out that the popularity of crystals these days can be traced back to a collection of books written in the 1980s by Katrina Raphaell. Katrina Raphaell also founded The Crystal Academy of Advanced Healing Arts in 1986.
Why do crystals and gemstones have such a great influence like that? In this post, let’s explore crystals and gemstones for healing. We’re going to dive deep into what both scientists and spiritual teachers have to say about them and how to pick out the ones that suit you best.
Exploring Crytals and Gemstone for Healing
Introduction to key concepts
Energy:
First thing is that we are all made up from energy. Quantum physics have shown that at the most fundamental level, all matter is composed of energy.
The table in front of you is made up of countless atoms bound together by electromagnetic forces, with electrons moving around the nuclei. These electrons have kinetic energy due to their motion and potential energy based on their position within the atomic structure. So, even though the table may appear solid and static to our senses, it is, at its core, a dynamic system of energy and particles.
To sum it up, energy is the life force that flows through all living things, and crystals are believed to possess unique energy signatures that can interact with our own.
Chakras
Chakras, on the other hand, are energy centers within our bodies, each associated with specific aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being
In a healing session, a crystal practitioner might position different stones or crystals on your body, aligning them with specific chakra points. These points are typically located above the head, at the forehead, throat, chest, stomach, gut, and genital area.
Auras
Auras are the subtle energy fields that surround individuals. Crystals are thought to cleanse and enhance these auras, promoting a state of balance and vitality.
The Unique Energies Associated with Different Crystals and Gemstones
Michelle Roques-O’Neil, an experienced healer with over two decades of experience working with crystals, explains that “crystals are different combinations of minerals that help purify, balance and realign by working with our bioenergetic systems”.
Crystals and gemstones are like nature’s little energy powerhouses, each with its own unique vibe and personality. You can think of them as having their own special “energetic fingerprint.”
For example, let’s take the vibrant green Aventurine. This gemstone is often linked to the energy of abundance and good luck. It’s said to attract prosperity and create a positive, harmonious atmosphere around you.
And we have Amethyst, which is known for its calming and soothing energy. It’s like your own little zen buddy, helping you relax, de-stress, and even enhance your spiritual awareness.
List of different types of crystals and gemstones for healing:
Amethyst:
Amethyst typically ranges in color from pale lavender to deep purple.

Authentic Moonstone is highly valued, and it’s essential to purchase it from reputable sources. Moonstone should be handled with care to avoid damage and cleaned gently with a soft cloth.
How to care for crystals
Exploring crystals and gemstone for healing wouldn’t be completed if we don’t talk about how to select and care for them.
Judy Hall, a renowned crystal expert and author, on the topic of cleansing crystals said: “Cleansing crystals is a fundamental practice in working with their energy. Just as we bathe to remove physical dirt and refresh ourselves, crystals need a cleansing to clear away negative energies they may have absorbed and to revitalize their own energy. Cleansing your crystals keeps them at their best for you.”
Proper cleansing and charging of crystals are essential practices to maintain their energy and effectiveness in crystal healing and metaphysical work. Here are some cleansing techniques for you:
Cleansing techniques:
Water Cleansing:
Submerging crystals in clean, flowing water (such as a natural river or stream) is an effective way to cleanse them. You can also use a bowl of clean water or tap water.
Be cautious with water-soluble crystals like Selenite, as they can degrade in water. Ensure your crystals are not porous or soft, as some may be damaged by prolonged exposure to water.
Salt Cleansing:
Placing your crystals in a bowl of sea salt, Himalayan salt, or even dry salt can help remove negative energies.
Leave them for several hours to a few days, depending on the crystal’s energy and how much cleansing is needed. However, avoid using this method for soft or porous stones, as salt can be abrasive.
Selenite Cleansing:
Selenite is a self-cleansing crystal. You can place other crystals on a selenite charging plate or wand to cleanse them.
It’s a gentle and effective method that won’t damage your crystals.
Smoke Cleansing:
Using smoke from herbs like sage, palo santo, or incense, pass your crystals through the smoke. The smoke clears negative energies.
Sunlight and Moonlight:
Leaving your crystals in natural sunlight (for a few hours) or moonlight (especially during a full moon) can cleanse and recharge them.
However, be mindful, as some crystals may fade or change color in direct sunlight.
Visualization and Intention:
Hold your crystal in your hand and visualize a bright, purifying light surrounding it. Set the intention that all negative energies are cleared away. This method is particularly effective for smaller, personal crystals.
Charging Techniques:
Moonlight Charging:
Placing your crystals under the light of a full moon is a powerful charging method. The moon’s energy infuses the crystals with positive vibrations. Leave them overnight for optimal results.
Sunlight Charging:
Charging your crystals in sunlight can infuse them with vibrant energy. However, be cautious, as some crystals may become brittle or fade in direct sunlight. Choose a sunny but not scorching spot.
Crystal Clusters:
Placing your crystals on or near larger, high-energy crystals like Amethyst clusters or Clear Quartz clusters can charge them. These clusters act as energy amplifiers.
Visualization and Affirmation:
Hold your crystal in your hand, close your eyes, and visualize it filling with radiant light. Say or think positive affirmations related to your crystal’s purpose. This method programs the crystal with your intention.
Sound and Vibrational Charging:
Use sound vibrations from singing bowls, tuning forks, or bells to charge your crystals. Sound can clear stagnant energy and activate the crystals’ frequencies.

I wanted to take a few minutes and praise Crystal, as my healing session with her was phenomenal. Crystal hangs out in the higher realms of pure divine love and when she gasps for air she goes out and heals some people.
She worked on my right lower arm and shoulder as well as on my right wing on my middle back where I had stuck chi since January (it’s now September). The pain was almost constant in those places and getting amplified when the body was under perceived stress. Crystal worked on me with Reiki for up to an hour and the pain was completely gone by the end of the session and it has not returned since (it’s been 5 days). I am so very grateful. Crystal represents the embodiment of divine love. Thank you for listening to your divine call and for being a masterful healer who continues to seek expansion of the Self.

When I first started my office job many years ago. I was working with a gal who was desperately trying to convince. She did fertility treatments, dieted, etc. At the time I was HEAVILY involved with crystals. One weekend I went to a crystal show and came across a red Jasper stone, shaped as a turtle in key chain form.
I bought it with my co-worker in mind. It just spoke to me, as many crysyals do. Many times, I don’t know their main properties at the time I purchase, but read up about then later.
Come to findout, red Jasper is used to help women convince, and the turtle is a sign of fertility. I gifted her the turtle and gave them info I found.
Shortly there after, she conceived her first child and has two children today.
I believe crystals do provide specific energy to those in need. And I always have taken pride in my ability to find appropriate healing crtsyals for those who need it.

Since the beginning of the year I had been dealing with a very toxic friend/roommate. Because of that my mind has not been clear and I haven’t been able to remember any of my dreams. This has been happening since January, with the only ones I could remember being very small details. The friend is gone and I have been focusing on centering and healing myself from the whole situation.
I picked up my first labradorite over the weekend, and just because I was enjoying it so much I happened to end up with it beneath my pillow where it has been since then. And EVERY single night since Saturday I have had and remembered very vivid dreams.
I’ve always believed in the healing and metaphysical properties of crystals, but this is the first time I’ve ever experienced it without even knowing that was a property before hand as the limited research I did on it before purchasing it just told me it aided with psychic ability. For me this makes my relationship and curiosity about crystals all that much more intense and I can’t wait to start focusing on working with them more.
I hope my post about Crystals and Gemstones for Healing has been helpful to you. I believe that crystals and gemstones do hold the ability to uplift our spirits and nurture our spiritual growth. However, the most important aspect is the resonance you feel with your practices, as it plays a vital role in any spiritual journey.
I hope you find harmony in the gentle wisdom they impart, and may they guide you toward a deeper understanding of yourself and the universe.
