What is the power of your subconscious mind?

Research in psychology has shown that our prior experiences, beliefs, and expectations can create perceptual biases. These biases influence how we interpret our reality. Prior experiences may have more effects on you than you realize. 🧐🌀

Science has demonstrated through numerous experiments that your perception of reality today is the end result of all the collective events that have occurred in your life. Every thought, reaction, and emotion you experience today carries the footprint of all the past experiences you’ve had.

But in fact, you can only remember about 5% of the events that happened in your life, while everything else stored in your subconscious mind. And the subconscious mind can twist your reality to an extent that you might not even think possible.

In this post, I will help you answer the question, “What is the power of your subconscious mind?”

So, bear with me, because I’m going to present some surprising facts that will leave you stunned.

The Subconscious Mind’s Role in Shaping Our Reality

Right from the start, as soon as we enter this world, our mental world starts taking shape. Those early experiences are like the architects, designing the fine lines of how we think, feel, act, and see things.

For instance, the gentle love and care we receive from our mother have a significant impact on shaping our personality down the road.

You might believe that at such a young age, you were too little and incapable of perceiving much. However, the attention from your loved ones during this stage helped form a foundation. It builds a sense of trust, self-worth, and resilience.

On the flip side, if these attachments are disrupted, they can lead to challenges in building healthy relationships and managing our emotions.

This is actually a study proposed by John Bowlby. He and subsequent studies have explored how secure attachment, characterized by sensitive and responsive caregiving, contributes to a child’s sense of trust, self-worth, and ability to manage emotions.

He identified three primary attachment styles:

Secure Attachment

Children with secure attachment feel comfortable exploring the world while knowing their caregiver is a reliable base of support. They exhibit confidence, self-esteem, and empathy in relationships.

Anxious (Ambivalent) Attachment:

Children with anxious attachment tend to be overly preoccupied with their caregiver’s availability. They may show clingy behavior and difficulty self-soothing.

Avoidant Attachment:

Children with avoidant attachment often appear emotionally distant, avoiding close interactions with caregivers. They may develop self-reliance but struggle with emotional intimacy.

The Auto Pilot system

Our subconscious mind operates behind the scenes, orchestrating various aspects of our daily lives without our conscious awareness. It acts like a silent director, shaping our behaviors, thoughts, and even communication patterns.

Basic Activities: Walking, Sitting, and Breathing

Think about activities like walking, sitting, and breathing. These actions are typically automatic and require minimal conscious effort. Our subconscious mind stores and executes the patterns required for these activities.

For instance, you don’t consciously instruct your legs to move in a coordinated manner while walking. Instead, your subconscious mind manages the muscle movements and balance adjustments needed for walking.

Likewise, it takes care of your breathing, making sure you keep getting enough oxygen without you even having to think about it.

Communication patterns

The subconscious mind also control how we express ourselves and interpret the words and gestures of others.

Imagine having a chat with someone. While you’re focused on what you’re saying, your subconscious mind is also working in the background. It’s like a behind-the-scenes director of your communication show. It controls how you move, your facial expressions, and even the way you sound – like your tone of voice.

Sometimes, it makes you come across as excited, calm, or even a bit mad, without you even realizing it.

Your subconscious mind also affects how you understand what others are saying. It’s like everything will go through a pair of glasses made from your past experiences, beliefs, and feelings.

So, when you hear something, your subconscious filters it through these glasses, which can sometimes give you a slightly different perspective. And obviously, it can influence how you feel about what’s being said and how you react to it.

Law of Attraction view point:

According to the Law of Attraction, the core principle is “like attracts like.” We attract what we are. And by “what we are,” it means what our subconscious is.

For example, when you’re attempting to adopt a new habit or embrace a different lifestyle, it’s like you’re integrating something new into your life. Initially, you’re still in the process of assimilating it.

Only with consistent practice and its incorporation into your daily routine does it truly become a part of you. This is when the new lifestyle or habit becomes ingrained in your subconscious mind and this process typically takes time.

New beliefs, ways of thinking, and lifestyles need to pass through our conscious mind before reaching our subconscious mind. Once they reach our subconscious, they become a part of it. Removing them becomes challenging; they become an integral part of who we are.

So, when we say we attract what we are, it essentially means we attract what our subconscious believes and thinks we are.

Another example is practicing affirmations.

Let’s say you’re someone who has experienced numerous events in the past that have led you to doubt your abilities and self-worth. If others have treated you poorly and caused you to lose confidence in yourself, practicing affirmations like “I am worthy” or “I am surrounded by love” for just a couple of days won’t be very effective.

This is because the dominant force at the time is still the belief held by your subconscious mind. With such a belief firmly rooted in your subconscious, you might try to appear confident or act like a confident person, but you’ll still feel like you’re struggling.

You might even attempt to fake it, but it won’t feel natural. Eventually, you’ll reach a point where your true self breaks through.

So, to address any problems in your life, it’s not incorrect to say that you need to start from within, which involves changing your subconscious mind.

How to take advantage of the power of your subconscious mind

By now, I hope you’ve grasped the answer to the question “What is the power of your subconscious mind?” However, having this knowledge wouldn’t be very useful if we’re unsure how to harness that power and improve our lives. Recognizing the significance of our subconscious mind for our well-being, it’s crucial to learn how to tap into its potential and make it work to our advantage.

SATS methods:

Our subconscious mind is like a sponge when we’re in that half-awake, half-asleep state. It will become more receptive to any kind of information we put on it during this period. This is the basic principle of SATS method.

In SATS, we use imagination to create images of what we want to achieve in real life. It’s even better if you fully visualize and experience whatever you’re trying to attract into your life. It’s like using colorful pictures and engaging all our senses to craft a mental blueprint of our desires.

Imagination allows us to feel and live out our wishes in our minds before they actually happen in real life. Through this, our subconscious perceives it as real events, leading to changes based on our beliefs, ultimately attracting those desires into our lives.

I have written a few posts about the SATS method, which is a popular technique for influencing our subconscious mind. You can read the full post here

Expanding the Comfort Zone

Expanding your comfort zone is a powerful way to train and influence your subconscious mind. Think of it as stretching the boundaries of what you’re used to and introducing new experiences and challenges

For instance, consider the simple act of ordering a cup of coffee in person rather than relying on a mobile app, especially if you’ve been avoiding face-to-face interactions due to shyness.

Little change like ordering your coffee in person instead of through the app might seem small, but it’s actually a pretty big deal when it comes to stretching your comfort zone.

When you jump into those face-to-face interactions, even if they make you a bit nervous at first, you’re giving yourself a chance to get used to that feeling. It’s like getting used to a new pair of shoes – it might pinch a bit at the beginning, but with time, it becomes super comfy.

This is a motivational speech about getting out of the comfort zone from Steve Harvey:

Here are a few more examples of how you can expand your comfort zone:

Try a New Activity

Sign up for a dance class, art workshop, or a sport you’ve never tried before. Trying out stuff you’ve never done before is like giving your brain a workout!

It’s a way to learn new things and open yourself up to new experiences.

Networking

Attend a professional or social event where you don’t know many people. Strike up conversations, introduce yourself, and exchange contact information.

Travel Alone

Pack your bags. Heading off to a new place all by yourself? Get ready for a mix of excitement and a dash of challenge. Exploring a new spot solo is like taking on a cool quest – you’ll be figuring out new streets, making choices, and relying on your own awesome self.

It’s like giving your independence a boost and showing yourself just how capable you are.

At least once in your lifetime, give solo travel a shot. I’ve done it a few times myself, and let me tell you, each trip was a mesmerizing experience.

There are certain emotions and sensations that you can only truly feel when you’re out there exploring on your own. It’s a journey worth taking!

Volunteer:

Why not share your time with a group or organization?

Volunteering is like opening a door to a whole new world. You’ll meet awesome new folks, get fresh perspectives, and dive into some pretty cool experiences.

It’s like giving yourself a boost in the personal growth department – all while making a positive impact.

Initiate Conversation:

How about sparking up a chat with a stranger or someone you look up to?

Having a good ol’ chat with all sorts of folks can totally level up your talking skills and help you see the world from different angles. It’s like giving your social side a little workout – and who knows, you might just make some awesome new connections along the way!

Trust me, it’s not as hard as you think, and when you already get the hang of it, its just like a piece of cake.

Learn a New Skill

Take up a skill you’ve always been curious about, like playing a musical instrument or learning a new language.

The process of acquiring a new skill challenges your brain and builds your self-confidence.

Using affirmations

Simply sit down and do some reflection on yourself to discover any limiting beliefs you might be holding.

You don’t need to take this too seriously, nor should you treat it like a test or interview with yourself.

Just grab yourself a cup of tea or coffee, maybe even a slice of cake, and kick back while you think about your life. Don’t rush yourself to figure everything out in a single day; take your time. Every day you get to know yourself a little better is a step in the right direction. Having a notebook handy to jot down your thoughts could be helpful.

Another approach is to examine different aspects of your life and identify what’s not working.

For instance, let’s say you’re having trouble communicating or expressing your ideas to your coworkers in your career. Or maybe you find it challenging to maintain long-lasting relationships.

Jot these things down, then gently backtrack and trace how you thought and reacted in situations related to them.

Once you’ve gathered some clues about what might be holding you back, you can choose your favorite affirmations and make them a part of your everyday routine. Let’s keep that positive momentum going! 🌟📝

  1. I like it when you described our innermost strength as an ever-expanding energy. The strength of our innermost mind depends on how we put it into use. And much of it will be determined by how much we know. I started learning how to use the power of attraction some years back. And it has transformed how I approach issues and the results I generate. It is different from wishful thinking. It is attracting what you desire with your innermost strength.

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I completely resonate with your view on inner strength and the power of attraction.
Many people often mistake it for wishful thinking, but you’ve got it spot on – it’s all about tapping into your inner mojo to make your dreams come true. Changing your mindset like this can totally change how you tackle problems and the stuff you end up achieving.
Thank you again for visiting my blog.
